Army's humane face: On Ramzan, Muslim widows given essential items | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 13: Having already set up dispensaries and constructed roads in the region's remote and hilly areas, army showed its humane face today when it distributed daily use items to Muslim widows and the poor at Chandanwari in Kashmir. The need to distribute items of daily use among the widows of the Gujjar tribe was felt in view of the Ramzan month, army sources said. "All the items which a Muslim family requires during the holy Ramzan month were given to the widows and the poor of Chandanwari and its surrounding villages," the sources added. The items were given to them in a simple function by Victor Force GOC, Maj Gen Gurdeep Singh. Sources said Maj Gen Singh wished the community peace, progress and prosperity and assured them army's full support and cooperation. It is pertinent to mention here that army has built dispensaries in the far-flung Poonch and Rajouri areas, including Pindi, and also opened some vocational training centres for the local women. In the vocational training centres, women were being trained in tailoring, cutting and handling of computers. The need to open a dispensary at Pindi was felt by army following the death of some pregnant women of the area while they were being shifted to hospital.
