RBI organises financial literacy & awareness programmes | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 13: As a part of its Financial Literacy and Awareness programme, the Reserve Bank of India during the month of July 2010 organized 5 camps (4 in schools) at various places in the State for spreading financial literacy and disseminating banking concepts among students, teachers and general public. In these programmes, a team of officers presented lectures to students, teachers and general public about the economy in general and the role of RBI, its basis functions, financial services provided by the banks and benefits of financial inclusion and how RBI impacts the common person. The participants were apprised about the main features of genuine currency notes and how to distinguish them from forged notes. They were informed about the availability of exchange facility for soiled and mutilated currency notes. They were also made aware of the recent trend of fictitious e-mails, SMS etc. promising to pay huge amounts of money won through lottery by fraudsters and about unscrupulous NBFCs. After brief lecture sessions, quiz competition on general banking were held for the students and prizes were distributed to the winners. Financial literacy materials in the form of comic books in English, Hindi and Urdu language were also distributed.
