| Senior scribes, activists under scanner of security agencies | | ‘Pro- freedom activism’ in Jammu | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Aug 13: Following recent trouble that erupted in Jammu in the form of protests in support of ‘freedom movement’ at two sensitive places in the city, some journalists and ‘activists’ are under the scanner of security agencies. Though four people were picked up by the police and later released, they are still under the observation of the Police , with their activities under guard in the larger interests of ensuring peace in Jammu region.
Sources said even as these scribes and activists, two of the girls were released by the Police after questioning about their acts and the intentions which have seen as creating disturbances in the University, these people and their group as a whole is under watch not only by the Police but security agencies as well. The latter, sources said are also investigating into the aspects of the ‘activism’ the group has been indulging in for quite some time which has lately vitiated peaceful atmosphere in Jammu.
The protests , signature campaign and pro freedom slogans by a group of youngsters, it may be mentioned witnessed a strong reaction by some student organizations in the colleges and University, besides a critical reaction from the Jammu based political parties and some non political organizations. Since some activists, two of them scholars from JNU and a journalist are from outside the J&K state, police is also trying to find out their connections with some other groups and ideologies, apparently intended to influence the peace loving people of Jammu, sources said.
Though this group has been trying to dissociate itself with what has been largely viewed as ‘anti national activities’, the agencies are police are also looking into the aspect whether their activity of ‘signature campaign’ in support of what is happening in Kashmir and the pro freedom sloganeering acts were organized separately or as collaborated acts, even as this group has been crying hoarse that their activities clashed as a mere co incidence. However, Police is also verifying these contentions by questioning some senior scribes with whom these activists have shown affiliation.
The larger issue, highly placed sources said the presence of these student scholars, scribes and their activism under a banner in place like Jammu which is peaceful and doesn’t evoke any response from civil society to such activism. In fact, the civil society and the prominent citizens as a whole have taken strong exception to their acts , which they feel if allowed to happen, will certainly disturb the peace in the region. The Group has been trying to project their activities purely democratic and in support of the resolution of Kashmir problem, indirectly or directly what the protestors in Kashmir have been demanding , sources say that agencies are trying to put a check on such acts as these are bound to create disturbances in the Jammu region as a whole. Some senior leaders of political parties and prominent citizens worried over what happened all of a sudden in Jammu have sought the matters to be thoroughly investigated by the Police and security agencies , which is why the questioning of some senior scribes has been continuing for the last two days.
