Adultrated khoya seized | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 13: Suspected to have been adulterated with urea and fat, 1,500 kilograms of khoya was today seized by drug and food control organisation from the railway station here. Astonishingly, no one turned up at the railway station to claim the consignment.Packed in bags, the khoya reached here today at about 5.20 am by the Rajdhani Express, according to official sources. Acting on a tip-off, sleuths of the food wing of drug and food control organisation laid nakas at all the exit points of the railway station to lay hands on the accused. The nakas were laid under the direct supervision of food wing commissioner Satish Gupta. Sources said though the khoya bags were shifted from the railway bogie to the parcel office godown of the railways, no one turned up to claim the consignment. This surprised the sleuths as the nakas were laid secretly and no one had the prior information about it. As no claimant turned up, it gave rise to the suspicion that the accused knew in advance about the food wing's plans. The consignment was later seized by the sleuths. It was suspected that the khoya was adulterated with urea and fat which were hazardous for health. The authorities had taken the samples under the provision of the prevention of Food Adulteration Act, 1954.Sources said the the samples had been sent for testing and further investigations were underway. The authorities were also trying to find out the khoya dealer who had imported the seized consignment. It would not be difficult to identify him as there were only few khoya dealers here, the sources added.
