6 ultras trapped near Thanamandi, encounter on | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAJOURI/JAMMU, Aug 14: At least six militants, who on August 11 attacked two army vehicles and a Video Coach at Manyal Gali in Thanamandi, Rajouri, were today tracked down and engaged in a gunbattle by army and police jawans at Seranwali. After the August 11 attack in which two persons had lost their lives and 20 were wounded, the militants had fled the spot and melted into the nearby woods. Police sources said army troops and police tracked them down at Seranwali, a village close to Manyal Gali, at about 12.30 pm today. When the troops challenged them, they opened fire which was returned, the sources added. Sources said though the intermittent firing between the two sides was in progress till late tonight, it was not known if there was any casualty on the side of militants. Reinforcements had been despatched to the area and all escape routes plugged, the sources added. SSP, Rajouri, Romesh Kumar Jalla said the exchange of fire between the two sides was still on and the trapped militants were suspected to those who had on August 11 attacked army vehicles and a bus at Manyal Gali. Sources said after attacking the army vehicles and a bus, the militants were planning to disrupt Independence Day celebrations in Rajouri. |
