Jammu artist to represent India in China

JAMMU, Aug 16: Renowned sculptor of Jammu and Kashmir, Bishmber Mehta has been invited to China for participation in the China Changchun International Sculpture Symposium to be held at Jilin Province of Northeast China from August 18 to September 29.
Instructor Sculpture at Institute of Music and Fine Arts (IMFA) Jammu, Mehta is only Indian invited for the symposium along with 12 other sculptors from world over.
“During our 45 days stay, we will take part in Ist Arts Symposium of Changchun International Automotive Park for creating sculpture work. The finished sculpture work will be permanently displayed at the Automotive Park,” disclosed Bishmber Mehta in conversation with Sports & Allied News.
Belongs to district Kathua, Mehta did his Bachelor degree in Fine Arts Sculpture in 1984 from University of Jammu. He completed his Masters in Fine Arts in Ceramic Sculpture from MS University of Baroda four years later.
Already participated in 12 different national camps, Mehta has his collections at Raj Bhawan, Sher-e-Kashmir Agriculture University Jammu and Bhartiya Yog Kendra Jammu as also West Zone Cultural Centre Udaipur in Rajasthan.
Making his debut at the international level through China visit, this Jammu artist has displayed his collections at various art exhibitions at different states of the country during all these years.
Since this China Symposium is being organised for the upcoming Automotive Park, Bishmber Mehta has selected a special design of Indian origin system of transport—Auto Rikshaw –to be prepared by shaping the 6’-4’-3’ stone.
“It is proud privilege that someone from Jammu and Kashmir has been selected to represent India in this international sculptor symposium. Such visits by artists would further help strengthen India-China relations as also disseminate the rich cultural heritage of India with participants from countries like Russia, Japan and Korea,” said visibly happy Mehta.
He expressed thanks to his parent organization, J&K Academy of Art Culture and Languages for the kind support and encouragement in taking up the assignment.
