Army Chief visits Leh and Srinagar | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 16: Chief of the Army Staff General VK Singh today visited areas of Leh, which were ravaged by the recent cloud burst. During his visit, the General was briefed by General Officer Commanding, 14 Corps Lieutenant General SK Singh on the prevailing situation in Ladakh, due to the unprecedented heavy rainfall in the region and the efforts of the Army in providing succor to the locals, relief and rescue operations, restoration of connectivity with the rest of the country and ongoing rescue operations to locate missing army persons at Tyakshi. Army chief also visited the Military Hospital Leh, where he interacted with the patients, both civilian and army personnel who had sustained injuries during the calamity. The General also visited Choglamsar Relief Camp, where he interacted with the locals of village destroyed by nature’s fury and who had lost their homes due to the devastation. General VK Singh was briefed on the relief efforts undertaken by the army for the locals of the area. He assured the civilians that the army would provide all possible assistance towards their rehabilitation. He also carried out aerial survey of calamity affected areas. Later he left for Srinagar, where on his arrival there, the Army Chief was received by GOC-in-C Northern Command Lt Gen B S Jaswal and Lt Gen NC Marwah, GOC Chinar Corps. The Chief, besides interacting with senior officers of 15 Corps at Badami Bagh Cantt called on Governor NN Vohra and the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The Chief accompanied by the Army Commander and GOC 15 Corps is scheduled to visit forward areas along the Line of Control (LoC) on August 17.
