GOC-in-C Northern Command confers gallantry awards | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 16: GOC-in-C Northern Command Lt Gen B S Jaswal has conferred gallantry and meritorious awards to gallant officers, JCOs and Jammu Kashmir Police (JKP) officials and civilian defence employees on the occasion of 64th Independence Day. In a rare gesture, the General awarded his commendation card to a civilian, K P Singh, resident of village Tanda of Akhnoor Tehsil for his distinguished services to the Northern Command during Kargil War of 1999. K P Singh met army’s requirement of 3000 civilian porters to carry war stores uphill in Kargil Sector. He volunteered and exhorted Dogra youths to the service of motherland and to join him in working for the army as porters. Commendably Dogras came forward voluntarily in large number. He named it as “Tanda Tiger Force” which proved a great force multiplier. Gen Jaswal played significant role in Kargil counter offensive and had seen the performance of porters. Now when he is at the helm of affairs, he has formally recognized and rewarded the Porters of Tanda Tiger Force by conferring his commendation card to their organizer. Tanda Tigers thank the Army Commander for his kindness and pray for his progress and prosperity. Local Tanda Tigers; the unarmed military component of Op Vijay (Dogras and Ladakhis) who were in Kargil sector assembled at Akhnoor to celebrate the achievement and thank Army Commander. They also thanked Member Parliament Choudahry Lal Singh, MP and MLA Udhampur Balwant Mankotia for their contributions in adding porters in Tanda Tiger Force from Kathua and Udhampur areas.
