Car lifters' gang busted, army employee among two held | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 16: Busting an inter-district gang of car lifters, police today arrested a driver in the fire brigade wing of army and his accomplice, and allegedly recovered nine stolen Maruti cars at their instance. The seized cars were priced at about Rs 7.5 lakh, according to police sources.The accused were identified as Satish Kumar alias Pappu, son of Om Prakash of Sangrampur, Domana, and Rashpal Singh alias Kakka, son of Budhi Singh of Triyath in Pouni, Reasi. Satish -- a fire engine driver in the fire brigade wing of army -- was at present posted at 251 Ammunition Point (25 Division Ordinance Unit) at Nadpur in Nowshera, Rajouri. Rashpal too was a driver by profession.Sources said the duo used to steal Maruti 800 cars from remote and isolated areas of Jammu district and then sell them at Sunderbani, Siot, Lambri, Nowshera, Rajouri, Koteranka, Khwas, Reasi, Kalakote and Arnas areas. They were allegedly active for the past over six years, the sources added.Their sustained interrogation was on and police hoped to recover more cars stolen by them from different Jammu areas.The actual registration numbers of two of the cars recovered from them are: JK02AE/3175 and JK02AD/248. These carried fake registration numbers as JK14B/5581 and JK02AE/1243. The fake registration numbers of the remaining seven cars are: JK02T/6474, JK02W/4041, JK02G/6856, JK02E/2336, JK02J/7237, JK02F/415 and JK02J/1880. Their actual registration numbers were yet to be known, the sources added. |
