Senior citizens' deputation calls on Div Com

JAMMU, Aug 16: A deputation of senior citizens today called on the Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr. Pawan Kotwal and putforth various demands with regard to welfare and convenience of the people belonging to the senior section of the society.
The members of the deputation urged upon the Divisional Commissioner to formulate a State Policy on Older Persons (SPOP) on the pattern of National Policy on Older Persons (NPOP). They extolled to start an advisory helpline for senior citizens on health matters at state and district level hospitals, besides State Level Advisory Council for senior citizens.
They also demanded enhancement of old age pension from Rs. 500 to 1000 per month, opening of daycare centres/old age homes, provision of office accommodation, revision of health insurance cover and air taxi services for the patients referred for outside the state.
Divisional Commissioner gave a patient hearing and assured them that their demands will be taken up at appropriate forum for sympathetic consideration.
