| Sainik School Nagrota is overall champion in NZ Sports Festival | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 17: Hosts Sainik School Nagrota emerged overall champion securing highest 68 points on the concluding day of the week-long North Zone Inter-Sainik School Sports Festival held at the school premises here today.
As per the management of the institution, Sainik School Nagrota created history by winning the coveted title for the first time since inception of the school. "Earlier, Sainik School Nagrota won Defence Minister's trophy for best Sainik School," said proud Principal of the School, Group Captain, Ajay Kumar.
To claim the top slot, Sainik School Nagrota clinched hockey and basketball titles in sports and Debate (English) and Quiz trophies in co-curricular activities. School also remained runners-up in sub-junior football and Hindi debate as also third place in volleyball event.
Sainik School Kapurthala in Punjab remained overall runners-up with 55 points in their account. Kapurthala won football title. Just three points behind Kapurthala, Sainik School Ghorakhal remained third with 52.
In all, five schools representing J&K, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Uttrakhand participated in this annual sports festival.
On the concluding day today, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, MK Dwivedi was chief guest who gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes. In his brief address, the special invitee complimented hosts Sainik School Nagrota for the outstanding performance in both sports and co-curricular activities. He assured the School all possible help in promoting sports on the campus
Earlier, Principal of the School, Ajay Kumar presented a brief note of the week long sports extravaganza. He also informed the distinguished gathering about the school's recent achievements both in sports and academics.
Prominent among others present were Headmaster of the School, Lt Col. Krishan Yadav and Registrar, Major Sunil Pandita.
