Jammu girls win U-19 title; boys face Rajouri in final today | Inter-district handball championship of DYSS | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 17: Jammu district girls clinched under-19 title beating visiting district Poonch by six goals to nil in the annual divisional level inter-district handball tournament being organised by Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at Shastri Nagar grounds, here today. Supriya Sharma was the star performer from the winning team, who netted four goals while Sonali Chaudhary and Sudesh Kundal contributed one goal each. Only two teams turned up for the competition in girls' under-19 category, resulting into the direct final between Jammu and Poonch girls. Meanwhile, in boys' under-19 event, Jammu shall take on district Rajouri in the final, scheduled for tomorrow at the same venue. Earlier, in the semi-finals, Jammu thrashed Kathua by a huge margin of 18 goals with final score on board being read 22-04 while Rajouri overpowered district Doda 6-5 in extra-time after both sides played neck to neck in the stipulated time. In all, seven teams representing as many districts turned up for the competition. Being defending champion, Jammu got bye while other six teams directly played the quarterfinals. In quarters, Doda beat Poonch by eleven goals to two (11-2), Kathua defeated Ramban by thirteen goals to three (13-3) and Rajouri outplayed Udhampur in a tough battle by ten goals to nine (10-9). Today's matches were officiated by Ravi Singh Jaswal, Inder Prakash, Sanjay Jamwal, Ajay Kumar, Gourav Sharma and Jyoti Sharma. Prominent among those present included Bharat Kumar Sharma, DN Sharma, Sunita Goel, Parshotam Singh, Vijay Kumar Sharma, Ram Murti, Veena Tickoo, Harvinder Singh, Rattan Lal Sharma and Sadiq Hussain Malik. |
