Peerkho-Jewel road in shambles, authorities blink eyes | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu Aug 17: On one side when the government is investing crore of rupees in the maintenance and development of road connectivity in Jammu and its peripheries. The road connecting Gujjar Nagar with main city at Dogra Chowk is in shambles as it seems that authorities had turned eyes from it. According to residents the road is used as the by lane to divert traffic flow towards University, Jogi Gate. Vivekananda Chowk and CM house itself. The road is being used by traffic department to divert all the traffic flow towards south Jammu. The traffic experts referred this road as accident prone as the visible trenches and dilapidated condition causes huge inconvenience for the commuters. "This road is ever busy road of the Jammu city as it connects city with Gujjar Nagar, CM house, University and many other areas. Traffic department is using this route to lessen the traffic flow, but the condition of the road is as such it was ten years back," said aggrieved commuter. Notwithstanding the route utilized for so many purposes, authorities have turned their concern from this route as it never falls under their jurisdiction. Some three years back the construction work on this road was initiated but due to unknown reasons it was halted. "The rough condition of the roads speaks of own, apprehension of fatal accidents always haunts commuters here, mostly during rains, when all area inundates in water," said he, adding that due to coarse surfaced road vehicular traffic has to take diversion and it plies on single lane creating nuisance. The condition of the roads in the entire city is in shambles it's due to project of sewerages by NBCC. "NBCC after accomplishing their project only leveled those areas without proper macdamization, which in rains worsens causing problem for traffic. We have convened a meeting in this regard and requested NBCC to level up roads wherein they had dug holes, and make it worth commuting," said SP Traffic Zahid Manhas, adding that due to many reasons, the areas where NBCC has worked are not worth plying of vehicles. "We had tried to ply vehicles on this route but due to bumpy surface it was impossible for vehicles to pass through that route, because the level of main holes is above the surface of road," said Manhas. He also said that when they requested NBCC, they replied that they have to dig it again for making it concrete, said He. Talking to early Times, Senior General Manager NBCC, Hemraj admitted the fact and said that the main hindrance in the renovation of the road is alignment problem. "This project is stretched from Peerkho to Jewel Chowk and the work at Peerkho is under process, where as consultants are working on checking feasibility of realignment of this road also," said Hemraj. He said that their first priority is to construct Peerkho Road, where as after full fledged checking of alignment in lower Gujjar Nagar area, the construction takes place. "This road has to cater lower Gujjar Nagar and for that reason we are checking all possibilities to make it worth plying as it is nearer to river, we don't want this road to float in water during rains," said GM, Hemraj. This is a mega project and it will take some time, but as soon as the consultants came up with tangible realignment propose, NBCC will start working here simultaneously, said GM. |
