Scholarships worth Rs 12 crore for Gujjar- Bakkerwal students | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Aug 17: During the current year Rs 12 crore is being spent for pre-matric scholarship as per revised rates covering 2.20 lakh students of the Gujjar and Bakkerwal community. This was revealed at a meeting of officers held under the chairmanship of Vice Chairman State Advisory Board for the Development of Gujjar and Bakerwals, Bashir Ahmad Naaz, here today. The Wardens and Assistant Wardens of the Gujjar and Bakerwal Boys and Girls hostels also attended the meeting. Threadbare discussions were held with regard to initiatives taken for opening of Gujjar and Bakerwal hostels in all the newly created districts and other facilities provided to the girls students of the community. The meeting was informed that Rs 2.95 Crores are being spent for the management of Gujjar and Bakerwal hostels besides Rs 4 lakh has been spent for the Gojri Language through Culture Academy. The Vice Chairman impressed upon the wardens to work with utmost dedication so that Gujjar and Bakerwal students are empowered educationally. He emphasized for the best management of the hostels with all facilities including sanitation. Naaz said that while attending the District Development Board meetings demands for providing of funds for taking up of repairs/ renovation of Hostel buildings were put forth and agreed to by the concerned authorities and directed wardens to pursue the matter with the concerned District Development Commissioners for the release of funds. It was also resolved in the meeting that initiatives have been taken for opening of Gujjar and Bakerwal Hostels in all the newly created districts. Till the infrastructure for the same are created, a proposal for opening of the Gujjar and Bakerwal hostels in rented accommodation shall be moved. |
