JMC conducts anti-adulteration drive | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 17: As a part of its drive against the menace of adulteration and to maintain quality of commonly used food items being sold in the market, a team of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today inspected various food establishments in different city areas. A team of Food Inspectors led by Health Officer under the instructions of Commissioner JMC S C Sawhney made surprise checking of various food establishments The team inspected food establishments including Sweet Shops, Khoya Shops, Milk and Chess Shops/ Manufacturers, Milk Vendors in the area of Hari Market, BC Road, Bus Stand, Jewel Chowk, Bikram Chowk, Dogra Chowk, Satwari, Nai Basti, Indira Chowk. During the inspection about 40 food establishments were checked and 29 defaulters were booked under the provisions of Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, 1954 and J&K Municipal Corporation Act, 2000. A fine of Rs 9000 was also charged as fine from the defaulters on spot. The team also checked 10 quintals of milk and 2 quintals of milk were destroyed on spot. JMC officials also seized 15 Kgs of polythene carry bags from shopkeepers and vendors. The team also lifted one sample of Khoya from the Kaleeth Nagar, Hari Market and was sent to the Public Analyst Jammu for checking the standard of purity. Dr Mohd Anwar Choudhary, Health Officer of Jammu Municipal Corporation informed that the ongoing drive against the adulteration in the food items / eatables shall be pursued vigorously and all the food establishment owners / vendors are asked to ensure supply of pure and fresh products under proper hygienic conditions to the general public failing which strict action shall be taken against them. Beside this, the Municipal Veterinary Officer along with field staff conducted a drive against the adulteration of milk on the eve of Ramzan and Raksha Bandhan in the areas of Gandhi Nagar, Satwari, Gangyal, Kunjwani, Jewel, Canal Road and Bohri. During the drive 88 milk cans were lifted and 13 milk cans were sent to laboratory for analysis. Three Nos of milk cans found substandard were destroyed on spot. A fine of Rs 2200 was also realized from the erring Milk Vendors on spot. Further continuing the drive, the team also visited the meat shops in areas of CPO Chowk, New Plot, Janipur, Durga Nagar, Bhawani Nagar, Roop Nagar and a fine of Rs 1900 was also realized from the shopkeepers and the team also lifted 17 nos of stray animals from the areas of Panjtirthi, CPO Chowk, Ambphalla, Manda, New Plot, Janipur, Akhnoor Road, Jewel, Talab Tillo, Railway Road, Channi, Trikuta Nagar, Digiana, Gangyal, Satwari, Nai Basti, Gandhi Nagar and impounded the stray animals in Municipal Cattle Pound. An amount of Rs 2550 was realized from the owners of stray animals. |
