Free pulmonary function test camp held

JAMMU, Aug 18: Free Composite Spirometry (pulmonary function test / lung function test) was held today in Government Gandhi Nagar Hospital Jammu where about 55 patients took benefit. Medical Superintendent Dr Subash Bhagat inaugurated the camp along with Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Arun Sharma and other administrative supervisors.
Spirometry (meaning the measuring of breath) is the most common of the Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs), measuring lung function, specifically the measurement of the amount (volume) and speed (flow) of air that can be inhaled and exhaled.
Manohar emphasizes need for capacity development of planning /statistical staff
A good exposure to the members of the planning and statistic organization about the new techniques of planning and monitoring already prevailing among other parts of the country is essential for achieving effectively the targets set by the State Government for execution of various development programmes schemes.
This was stated by Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma, Minister of State for Cooperatives while addressing the interactive session with the officers of planning and statistics cadre in the conference hall of the DES Janipur, here on Wednesday.
In the meeting, Manohar lauded the role of the planning and statistical machinery in general and the positive role if the Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES) in particular for effective plan delivery and sustainable development of the State. He emphasized the need for capacity development of the planning /statistical staff with a view to increase their efficiency and professional competence for sound and rational planning. The minister of state appreciated the efforts and initiatives taken by the DES in strengthening the statistical database of the State and analyzing the growth and development performance of the Jammu and Kashmir economy and assured that the State Government will provide all the requiste support and assistance for strengthening the statistical system.
S.A Qureshi, Director, Economics and Statistics in his introductory speech gave and elaborate account of the activity profile of the Directorate of Economics and Statistics and the jobs being performed by the Planning at Block level database has abstract for all the 142 community Development Blocks. He also emphasized the need of generating quality database for grass root development for which the roles of DSEOs and CPO is pivotal.
The premier publication of Directorate of Economics namely digest of statistics 2008-09 was released by the minister on the occasion.
