| SLSA to visit Leh on August 21, 22 | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar, Aug 18:Justice Virender Singh of High Court and Executive Chairman State Legal Services Authority (SLSA) will visit the cloudburst and flood hit areas in Leh on August 21 and 22 to assess the situation on the spot and interact with the affected people.
Singh will also oversee and supervise the functioning of the core group constituted as per the scheme of National Legal Services Authority (NLSA) for providing legal services to the victims of disaster.
The core group was constituted by his lordship immediately after the news of the cloudburst disaster broke out. Under the supervision of District Legal Services Authority i.e. Principal District and Sessions Judge Leh, the core group has already swung into action.
The core group comprises Chief Judicial Magistrate Leh, President Bar Association Leh; besides two more members of the bar including a lady lawyer and a doctor nominated by the Chief Medical Officer and also includes members of the accredited NGOs.
Out of 19 strategic intervention points chalked out by Nalsa for strategic intervention by the State Legal Services Authorities, four points which need immediate attention by the core group are: ensuring immediate help by Governmental and Non Governmental agencies to the victims, supervising the health care and sanitation of the victims and preventing the spread of epidemics, ensuring the availability of food, medicine and drinking water and assisting in the rehabilitation of the old and disabled, who lost their supporting families.
