JMC continues anti-adulteration drive

JAMMU, Aug 18: Continuing its drive against the menace of adulteration and to maintain quality of commonly used food items being sold in the market, a team of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today inspected various food establishments in different city areas.
A team of Food Inspectors led by Health Officer under the instructions of Commissioner JMC S C Sawhney made surprise checking of various food establishments.
JMC team checked Halwai Shops, Khoya Shops, Milk & Paneer Shops/Manufacturers, Milk vendors, Restaurants, cooked Food Dhabas in the area of Panjtirthi, Ustab Mohalla, Kachi Chawni, Satwari, Nai Basti & Indira Chowk.
About 90 Food establishments were checked and 33 defaulters were booked under the provisions of Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, 1954 and Municipal Corporation Act, 2000 and a compounding fee of Rs 10,200 was also realized on spot from the delinquents especially milk vendors and khoya shops. About 15 quintal of milk was checked and 1.5 quintal of sub standard milk was destroyed on spot. About 10 kgs of polythene carry bags were also seized from the shopkeepers/vendors. About 10 kgs of coloured Pomegranate (Anar) Juice was also seized on spot.
Besides, this Municipal Mobile Magistrate along with Health Officer JMC also checked about 40 food establishments and 17 defaulters were booked under Prevention of Food
Adulteration Act, 1954 and a fine of Rs 8500 was also realized on spot by the Municipal Mobile Magistrate.
The drive will continue and all the food establishment owners/vendors specially who are dealing with the manufacturing/sale of milk and milk products, khoya outlets and Halwai Shops and milk vendors are strictly warned to supply of pure and fresh products under proper hygienic conditions to the general public and also keep their premises neat and clean failing which strict action will be taken against the defaulters under law.
