| 620 devotees leave for Amarnath; Chhari to leave tomorrow | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, Aug 18: About 620 devotees today left Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps for holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas to have the darshan of self-made ice-Shivlingam.
Authorities have finalised all arrangements, including security, as ''Chhari Mubarak'', the silver mace of Lord Shiva, will leave Dashnami Akhara tomorrow morning for Pahalgam.
An official at Baltal yatra control room said about 210 pilgrims left the base camp to cover the 13-km-long hilly track to reach the shrine this afternoon.
Similarly, 410 pilgrims left for Chandanwari, the last motorable point on traditional route, a yatra official said.
He said the devotees will leave for next halting station tomorrow morning.
So far, 452 pilgrims have had darshan of the Shivlingam in the shrine since the commencement of the two-month-long pilgrimage from July 1.
The holy 'Chhari Mubarak' will leave for Amarnath cave shrine tomorrow from Dashnami Akhara here, for which the authorities had made all arrangements, including security.
Mahant Deepender Giri, the custodian of the holy Chhari Mubarak, will carry the holy Mace along with other devotees, including sadhus.
The Chhari puja was already performed at Shri Amareshwar temple near here on August 14 on the occasion of Nag Panchami.
Before eruption of militancy, sadhus carrying 'Chhari Mubarak' used to start their journey on foot for the holy shrine immediately after this puja.
Having night halts at Pampore, Bijbehara, Martand, Aishmuquam, Pahalgam, Chandanwari, Sheshnag and Panchtarani, 'Chhari Mubarak' would reach the holy cave on 'Shravan-Purnima' the 'Raksha Bandhan' day.
