400 yrs old history to repeat in Rajouri | After opening of Mughal Highway, Govt planning to revive Mughal Caravan and monuments | | EARLY TIMES REPORT RAJOURI, Aug 18: In the land of Kings, 400 years old history is likely to be repeated with Mughal Caravan moving towards Kashmir on horses and elephants, as the government is planning to revive ancient monuments along Mughal road and restore the traditional style of Mughals for domestic and foreign tourists. Since Mughal road is likely to be opened for traffic near future, state government with the help of central grant has planned to revive 400 years old Mughal monuments along this highway and open new era of International Heritage Tourism. Sources said that state has reportedly consulted Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and had requested for providing sufficient funds for renovation and conservation of Mughal Monuments situated on Mughal road in Rajouri and Poonch districts. According to sources, Centre has also shown its interest in this regard. Sources said that government has also directed Rajouri Development Authority (RDA) to formulate a plan in this regard and the authorities of RDA are working on the mission. With an objective to serve as a gateway to Kashmir on the opening of Mughal Road, it is being recommended to restore glorious past of Rajouri as a heaven and hub of heritage tourism by way of reviving Mughal Caravans, introduction of traditional art, craft culture activities and revamping infrastructure facilities at the places of historical importance Mughal monuments. Right from Nowshera to Peer Gali on Mughal road, there are at least 14 structures of Mughal period. Though some of them were destroyed or encroached by the residents yet maximum are still in good condition but need renovation and restoration of the glory of past. On the bank of Manawar Tawi at Nowshera, Mughal emperor Akbar had constructed Qilla Noor Mahal in 1586 which was later renovated by Jahingir with the help of Iranian Engineer Ali Mardan Khan. Just after 10 kilometers from Nowshera is another Sarai of Mughal namely Saia Anayatpura which was constructed by then Raja of Rajouri Mast Wali Khan to receive Jahagir in 1620. The other monuments of Mughal period on the highway are Dhanidhar fort, Shalimar Garden at Rajouri, Baradari at Rajouri, Shiv Temple of Rajouri, Nain Sukh Sarai Fatepur, Saj Saria, Thannmandi fort and Sarai, Deragali Fort, Norrichamb and Aliabad Sarai. The Mughal road is a historical legacy of Mughal rulers which has left indelible mark on the socio-cultural fabric of Rajouri and adjoining areas since 16th century. When the construction of prestigious Mughal road is underway, government want to take the benefit of this road and restore the glory of these monuments to expand the tourism industry in the state. Government also want to recreate the ancient feel of the royal entourage of Mughal by conducting tour of the trial a regular feature wherein the tourists would be provided Elephants and Horses on this road to travel like royals used in 400 years ago. The government is planning to organize music and entertainment programmes for tourists during evening on the pattern of Mughals who were used to spend the evening with music and entertainment. Arrangement for Mughal cuisine is also a feature to be added for attracting and entertaining the tourist. The government may give final nod to the project in near, sources added.
