Student among two held with leopard skin | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 18: A 12th class student pursuing studies privately and his accomplice have been arrested by police from different city localities for allegedly trying to smuggle a leopard skin. They were identified as Mehzoor Ali (18), son of Ashiq Ali of Judda, Mahore, and Mohammad Maqsood (24), son of Ghulam Qadir of Thuroo, Mahore. Mehzoor was pursuing his 12th class studies privately. Police sources said Mehzoor was walking by the roadside at Panama Chowk Monday night when a police party led by Inspector Abid Rafiqi, SHO of Trikuta Nagar police station, stopped him for checking.During the checking of his bag, cops recovered a leopard skin, the sources added. He was immediately taken into custody and whisked away to the Trikuta Nagar police station.At his instance, police arrested Maqsood from his hideout in the city. During their sustained interrogation, the duo told police that the leopard skin was given to them by a man, suspected to be a poacher, at Mahore for its delivery to someone at Chhani Himmat. Sources said the poacher and the Chhani Himmat man stood identified and were likely to be arrested anytime. A police team would be despatched to Mahore to apprehend the poacher, the sources added. Sources, however, did not disclose the identity of the poacher and that of the Chhani Himmat man, saying it could hamper their investigation process.A case under the Wildlife Act had been registered against the accused. |
