BJP ridicules CM’s demand of autonomy in wake of Valley turmoil
8/19/2010 8:37:06 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, AUG 19: “Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is raking up the issue of “Autonomy” to divert the attention of the people from his governance failure”.
This was rued by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), State President Shamsher Singh Manhas while addressing a press conference on Thursday.
Manhas said that the State is passing through tough times because the existence of the government is neither felt nor seen any where.
“The anti-national elements are targeting security forces, employees’ attendance in government offices is zero, shops and business establishments are closed, and separatists are openly issuing their action calendars for nefarious activities,” said BJP president adding this all is done as per the dictates of the anti-national elements.
Instead of taking effective steps to ensure writ of the government work, the clueless CM is trying to divert the attention of the people by repeatedly raising the dead issue of “Autonomy”.
The current turmoil in the valley, coupled with the slogans of Azadi by the anti-national elements, Autonomy by NC and Self-rule by PDP, are part of the same game linked with a deep rooted conspiracy to distance this state from rest of the country.
He further said that the manner in which the developments have taken place in Kashmir valley in particular, clearly indicate that the coalition leaders of the NC and the Congress are in league with the anti-national elements or they are trying to fish in the troubled waters.
Although the trouble makers in the valley are not demanding Autonomy or self-rule but the way the state CM and his colleagues are endeavoring for Autonomy is a matter of great concern.
“As far as the nationalists are concerned, they are totally opposed to any weakening of the ties between this state and rest of the country, the BJP makes it clear to all concerned at New Delhi as also in the state, that no reversal of the integration would be tolerated,” Manhas added and recalled that the party always sought the abrogation of Article-370, which has proved to be the root case of numerous problems and shall continue to struggle for its deletion.
Manhas said it is pity that Congress had never a Kashmir policy and pointed out that when this pernicious Article-370 was incorporated, the nationalists, both in the Parliament and outside, had raised their voice but late Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru had assured the countrymen that it was a temporary provision and would wither away with the passage of time.
“It is unfortunate that his followers are now demanding its permanence, contrary to the interests of unity and integrity of the country,” said Manhas.
The BJP Chief advised the State CM not to raise the bogey of Autonomy; instead, he should concentrate on equitable development of all the regions and the welfare of the ignored classes of the society.
