Football season in Jammu to start next month | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 19: Spread over six months, the football season of Jammu division shall start from first week of September. Guided by the Jammu wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA), the activities kick start with the league competitions in all three age groups of sub-juniors, juniors and seniors. Besides this, the Association is also contemplating a plan to hold in Jammu the Coca Cola sponsored knock-out football tournament. This was disclosed by resident secretary of the JKFA Jammu wing, Surinder Singh Bunty while interacting with Sports & Allied News. “The fixture for the league events would be drawn soon after the ongoing process of new club registrations at the wing level is complete on August 22,” said the resident secretary. Since a good number of new clubs have come to the fold of JKFA Jammu wing this year, the Association is expecting a hectic schedule ahead in the league competitions. “I feel proud to disclose that a number of new clubs have come forward for registration this time, so over 100 matches are expected to be played in the league tournaments of three different age groups,” he maintained. The Association is also holding deliberations with local representative of the Coca Cola for conducting a tournament in Jammu, which is part of the national level activity of the soft drink company. “Entering into an agreement with the All India Football Federation (AIFF), Coca Cola conducts football tournaments at state level, so we are also looking forward to hold same event in Jammu. Presently, we are holding deliberations with company’s local representative,” disclosed Surinder Singh Bunty. Other activities of the season included Seven-a-Side night tournament at Mini Stadium, Parade; Mushtaq Memorial; Sher-e-Kashmir Gold Cup and Christmas Gold Cup football tournaments.
