Patwari caught red-handed accepting bribe | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 19: A patwari was today caught red-handed by the state vigilance organisation (SVO) for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 from a man for issuing him a copy of Misal Hakiat. Identified as Harbans Lal, son of Des Raj of Ghagwal, he was at present posted at halqa Ratnal in Bishnah. The complaint against him was lodged by Sham Lal, son of Natha Ram of Ratnal. Sham had applied in the office of tehsildar, Bishnah, for the issuance of a copy of Misal Hakiat to him with regard to his 15 kanals of land at Ratnal. SVO sources said as the tehsildar marked the application to Harbans, he allegedly demanded Rs 4,000 from Sham for issuing him the document he needed.When despite repeated visits to the patwari, he refused to do the work till he allegedly gave him Rs 4,000 as bribe, Sham lodged a complaint against him with SVO. Acting on his complaint, the SVO sleuths laid a trap today and arrested him red-handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 4,000.A case under section 5(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act read with section 161 of RPC was registered against him.
