Construction of Mugal Road Govt’s priority: Saroori

SRINAGAR, Aug 19: The prestigious Mughal Road will be thrown open for traffic by October this year. The road connects the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch with Kashmir valley.
This was disclosed by Minister for Roads & Buildings (R&B) G M Saroori at a high level meeting convened to review the progress on the construction of this road.
The meeting was informed that the road will be fully macadamized within a year. The work on Poonch side has been speeded up while on Shopian side the work is already going on apace.
It was told that there are no obstacles for the construction of the road as the Wildlife department has given green signal for the execution of the project long back following clearance from the Supreme Court and Empowered Committee.
The DPR for the construction of a tunnel at Pir Ki Gali has not been prepared yet, however the preliminary report for the same stands formulated and Chief Engineer Mughal Road has been asked to prepare its design, the meeting was informed.
It was further informed that priority of the government is construction of the road and work on the tunnel will be taken up in stage-II.
Addressing the meeting, the Minister said that the Mughal Road is being executed on priority and government will not tolerate any slackness in its progress.
Chief Minister as well as the Minister has taken up the construction of various tunnels including Zojilla, Sadhna, Razdan, Chatter Galla Sudh Mahadev, Sinthan Vailo and Pir Ki Gali with the Central government, he said.
The meeting also discussed the physical achievements registered under PMGSY in district Ganderbal. It was informed that 18 schemes at a cost of Rs 56.28 crore have been taken up for the execution in various areas of the district. Out of which 8 schemes have been completed at a cost of Rs 23.30 crore by the end of July 2010. The work on six more schemes will be completed during the current fiscal and four schemes during next year.
