Future of Dental College students is at stake: Parents | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 19: The Parents of the students of Indira Gandhi Dental College, Jammu have castigated the state government for its apathetic attitude towards the students undergoing dental courses in the college. Talking to media persons here today, the parents accused the government in State and Centre for totally ignoring the future of students of Dental College due to de-recognition of the institute by the Dental Council of India (DCI). ‘We are worried about the career prospects of our children”, parents said, adding, ‘Our children have been betrayed by the government’. They mentioned that DCI has been conducting inspections of the college for the past six years and has been directing the college authorities as well as the government to make up for the deficiencies in the college. The first batch of Indira Gandhi Government Dental College started in year 2004 and presently there are six batches running in the Dental College at Jammu. They regretted that the college has been de-recognized by the DCI on the grounds including not having a Principal and lack of other infrastructural facilities. Saying that Dental College Jammu was one of the best college, guardians of the students appealed the government to take up matter with the concerned higher authorities particularly Union Health Minister and former J&K Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad as the matter is related to the future of the students. ‘Today we are all parents met and discussed the de-recognition issue and if nothing concrete could be done in this connection by the government, we will go to court to get justice”, parents maintained. The Dental College Students were also present during the meeting and later in the press conference.
