Packed milk being overcharged | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, Aug 19: Already burdened with inflating prices of essential commodities for quite a while now, the consumers of packed milk here have to shell out extra money as they are being charged more than the printed rate on packets. Some of the retailers of leading milk brands including Surya and Verka are allegedly over charging from the consumers but surprisingly the administration has adopted a ‘lackadaisical’ approach over the issue. Talking to Early Times, a consumer Neeraj said that retailers are charging ten to twelve rupees from consumers for half a liter of Surya and Verka milk packs but the prices mentioned on these packets is only Rs 10.50. When contacted, the main supplier of Surya milk Products said that it is not true that the consumers are being over charged. In reality, the prices have been increased by Jammu suppliers. The confusion over prices arisen due to the use of packets with old rates printed on them since the pouches with new prices are not available. Meanwhile, Municipal authorities in this regard said that they are unaware of the matter and no one has approached us with a complaint of overcharging. We will definitely crosscheck the veracity of the accusation.
