3 more Army men found dead in Leh floods | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT New Delhi, Aug 19: Three more deaths of Army men in recent floods have been reported from Leh. This has been stated by Ministry of Defence here today. The latest disclosure by the Ministry takes the total number of casualty of Army personnel in the recent floods to 23. This includes three Junior Commissioned Officers, or JCOs. Twelve other personnel are still said to be missing ever since the tragedy that caught Leh unawares in the wake of a cloudburst that spelt death and devastation during the wee hours of August 6. The Ministry today said that 19 columns of Army personnel were still busy in the rescue and relief task in the affected areas of Leh. Tons of relief material has been airlifted by Indian Air Force aircraft and helicopters. And armed forces were still looking after the refugee camps set up after the tragedy that resulted in the death of over 180 people while several are still reported to be missing. The Armed Forces hospital is still treating people injured during widespread mudslides in Leh and its nearby areas. |
