Shepherds' bodies being shifted from Kousar Nag to Kulgam | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 19: Police today found the bodies of the shepherds -- Nanak Chand and Javed Ahmad -- who were shot dead by militants at Kousar Nag mountain peak on the Reasi-Kulgam border. They hailed from Sukha village of Chasana in Reasi and had gone to Kousar Nag to graze their cattle. Both of them were beleived to have been killed by militants Tuesday night. Since it was a far-flung area, it took other shepherds a full day to report the matter at the nearest police station, police sources said. Police teams from Chasana and Kulgam in Kashmir were then despatched to Kousar Nag Wednesday. Sources said the police teams, which reached the spot this evening, took the bodies into their custody. There were bullet holes in their bodies which showed that they had been killed by militants, the sources added. The bodies were being shifted to Kulgam and were likely to reach there tomorrow morning, SSP, Kulgam, Keshav Rao Chourasia said.He said it was a hilly and treacherous track, and cops had to be very careful while coming down the hill. From Kulgam, the bodies would be brought to Chasana and handed over to their family members for last rites, the sources added. Sources said Reasi district's upper reaches had a sizeable number of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants. The killing of the shepherds was part of their new strategy to spread panic among those living in the remote and inaccessible areas of Reasi, the sources added. |
