Flash floods create havoc in Gopinath Vihar, Mishriwala, Purkhoo Camps, Domana

JAMMU, Aug 19: Flash floods and heavy rains which lashed the Jammu early this morning, created a havoc in many areas of Raipur Domana and Marh Assembly constituencies after damaging the residential houses, compound walls, roads and lanes.
The worst hit were the residents of Gopi Nath Vihar and Bhagwan Gopi Nath Ashram Udaywala Bohri, Migrant Camps of Mishriwala and Purkhoo, Sharda Colony and Sarswati Vihar Patolit Brahmna and Damana were people suffered a heavy loss due to flash floods and heavy rains.
There was a horrible situation in Bhagwan Gopi Nath Vihar Udaywala where some houses had developed cracks after the flood water seeped inside the rooms through walls and windows damaing the entire house hold goods of over 100 residents in the locality besides washing away the compound walls and roads completely in the area.
This reporter saw people collecting their soaked and damaged house hold goods and other important documents submerged in five feet deep water and draining the water out from their rooms through buckets. Many vehicles which were parked in the compounds of these residential houses were also drenched in the flood waters and slush.
The three rooms of a residential house belonging to one Master Ji in the colony had sunk after the flood water seeped inside the house through back walls. Besides the floor has also developed cracks. Over 50 meters of the lane were also washed away by the flash floods outside the Master Ji's residence. Besides a compound wall on the back side of the House was completely damaged in flash foods which inundated the low lying areas.
The local people while narrating the horrible tale said that during the 3 am today after the heavy rains lashed the Jammu, the nallah flowing amidst the colony was in furry. It got blocked after the compund wall along a residential plot collapsed and fell in the nallah creating havoc in the entire area.
The situation was no different in Bhagawan Gopi Nath Ji Ashram and adjoining residential houses where the flash floods had caused a lot of damage. This reporter saw the entire Ashram in five feet deep water with goods, currency notes, medicines, books, bedding, furniture and other material floating in the water.
The aid for Ladakh victims which was lying in the Ashram as its first consignment was to be despatched by chopper this afternoon has also perished in flash floods. Besides, the valuables and other goods which were donated by Ashram inmates for the marriage of ten girls to be solminized next month had also got completely damaged. The Ashram inmates said that the damage was worth lakhs of rupees.
A Juggi of laborers along the colony also got damaged in the flash floods in the area.
In Mishriwala Migrant Camp G Block the household goods and ration of over 100 Kashmiri migrant families were completely damaged after the flood water entered inside the residential quarters this morning. The hapless people whose bedding, clothes and other electronic gadgets were damaged after the flood and slush entered their rooms. They had nothing to cook for their meals today.
The Revenue Minister Raman Bhalla and Relief Commissioner, Vinod Koul visited the camp and assured all help to the victims.
The camp inmates alleged that the flood water entered the quarters after damaging the bandh.
On the back side of the camp the flash floods damaged the compund walls and shops of some local residents besides washing away the paddy which was planted in the fields recently.
At Purkhoo Camp the floods had damaged the household goods of 30 migrant families in Phase Second and Phase third besides a police camp in the TRT Camp at Purkhoo. At Damana 100 meters of the bank of Ranbir Canal and a link road were also washed away by the flash floods of a nallah flowing from upper reaches. The flash floods also damaged over half a kilometre of a link road in Sharda colony and Sarswati Vihar.
At Barnai the foodgrains and feed worth lakhs of rupees belonging to American feeds got damaged due to the flash floods which entered the Godwon of American Feeds early this morning.
