RAJOURI, Aug 19: Since state government has already planned to revive Mughal monuments along Mughal Road, a renowned world class architect organization Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) is being approached to prepare model for restoration of glory of the monuments in Rajouri-Poonch districts.
INTACH is likely to prepare concept paper and preliminary report for reclamation, conservation and refurbishment of historical monuments and promotion of cultural and heritage tourism in twin border districts Rajouri and Poonch.
Pertinent to mention here that prior to opening of momentous Mughal road, state government with the help of central grant has planed to revive 400 years old Mughal monuments along Mughal highway and open new era of International Heritage Tourism and the work has been started on this prestigious project.
To start with, government has planned to approach INTACH for preparing a comprehensive concept paper of the project. Government as per sources want to first conserve and revive the past glory of Qilla Noor Mahal of Nowshera, Sarai Anayatpura, Dhanidhar fort, Shalimar Garden at Rajouri, Baradari at Rajouri, Shiv Temple of Rajouri, Nain Sukh Sarai Fatepur, Saj Saria, Thannmandi fort and Sarai, Deragali Fort, Norrichamb and Aliabad Sarai. INTACH has already prepared a concept paper of Bhaderwah Qilla which was vacated by the Jail Authorities after 1947. INTACH has suggested constructing open air theater, rich library, auditorium, heritage centre, conference hall, installing lightening system and renovation of the monument on the old pattern. On the same pattern government want it to repeat in Rajouri.
The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) was founded in January 1984 with a view to create general awareness about the rich cultural and natural heritage of India. It was hoped that the Trust, once formed, would help a revival of interest amongst the people, to look at their culture with the respect and dignity it rightly deserves. As a membership based national non-government organisation the charter of INTACH enjoins it to involve people in the conservation of this heritage. Towards this end it seeks to carry out activities, which are oriented to education and communication. INTACH plays a vital role in the listing, documenting and conserving historic structures and precincts of architectural, historical and cultural value. The team of conservation architects is working on various prestigious projects nationwide for the conservation of heritage properties and mobilization of resources in this direction.
Sources said that government has instructed the concerned department to take up the matter with Tehsildar Nowshera, Rajouri, Thannamandi, and Surankote for identification and reclamation of the land of these monuments and Archeological Survey of India is also being approached to visit these sites and help Rajouri Development Authority in preserving these age old Mughal structures.
The project is being taken in the hands only to promote heritage tourism in the twin border districts and the RDA is preparing to receive the tourists in large number in the coming years.
