Flowers on I-Day, bullets three days later
Firing was aimed at facilitating infiltration by militants

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU/rajouri, Aug 19: When on August 15, Pak troops presented flowers and sweets to Indian soldiers at Chakan-da-Bagh in Poonch, for a moment it seemed as if they had brought with them a message of peace too.
However, only three days later, their goodwill gesture turned out to be fake when they indulged in major ceasefire violation, targetting five forward Indian posts in Krishna Ghati sub-sector of Poonch with rockets, mortars and heavy firing in the wee hours of Thursday morning.
Official sources said the Pak troops from their Dilawar and Daku posts opened heavy volume of fire at about 1 am, targetting Kirpan, Kranti, Ghoda, Ravi and Nengi Tekri forward posts in Krishna Ghati.
The Pak firing was totally unprovoked, the sources added, saying it was aimed at facilitating infiltration by a group of five to seven militants. The small arms fire was followed by firing of mortar bombs and rockets. Indian troops retaliated, besides placing multiple ambushes in the area to foil any infiltration bid by the militants, the sources added.
16 corps BGS, Brig S Dua said dozens of mortars and rockets were fired, which exploded in noman's land without causing any harm to life and property of the troops, or the border residents.
The heavy exchange of fire between the two sides continued for over three hours. Casualty, if any, on the Pak side was not immediately known, the sources added.
"It is a ceasefire violation and it was aimed at infiltrating militants into this side of the LoC. We have lodged a strong protest with our Pakistani counterparts and called for a flag meeting over the incident," the BGS added.
This is for the second time that Pakistani troops have fired mortars bombs and rockets this year. Earlier, on July 15 and 16, they had violated ceasefire along the LoC and targeted six Indian posts with mortar, rockets and small arms fire in Poonch sector.
