Dental Students continued their protest | Chib appeals to call off protest | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 21: The students of the Indira Gandhi Dental College, Jammu have castigated the state government for its apathetic attitude towards the students undergoing dental courses in the college. About three hundred students of the Dental College have resorted to strike in order to protest against the de-recognition of the institute by the Dental Council of India (DCI). The Dental College students’ strike entered the third day today. The striking students alleged that they have been betrayed by the government adding that DCI has been conducting inspections of the college for the past six years and has been directing the college authorities as well as the government to make up for the deficiencies in the college. Meanwhile , asking the students to understand the latest status of the situation and call off the dharna and cooperate with the College Authorities as well as the Government so that, the recognition of this College is done at the earliest. The path of confrontation and getting into dharnas and procession is not going to solve this complex issue stated Minister for Medical Education, Sports & Youth Services, R. S. Chib Chib reiterated that the Government is equally concerned about the future of young students and it is our endeavour to see that this College gets recognition at the earliest. He said the recognition of the College was granted by the Dental Council of India and Ministry of Health, Government of India only when the first batch of students comes out from the College. Since the first batch of the Indira Gandhi Dental College is still undergoing internship, the matter regarding their recognition and that of the College is being pursued with the Dental Council of India/ MOH, Government of India, he added. Chib said that he is continuously in touch with the Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Jenab Ghulam Nabi Azad and also the president Dental Council of India to find out the ways and means to ensure its recognition. However, because of certain restrictions imposed by the Court, the re-inspection of the College is likely to take some time. |
