Chamber deputation calls on IT officials | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 21: A deputation of Chamber of Commerce & Industry led by President YV Sharma and comprising of office bearers and senior members called on Commissioner Income Tax Administration and Commissioner Income Tax Appeals to felicitate them on assuming the charges of their respective offices at Jammu. During interaction Chamber raised problems and difficulties being faced by trading fraternity and industrialists of the state. It was brought to the notice of the Commissioner Income Tax that the department is neither refunding Income Tax deducted at source nor refunding excess of Income Tax paid by the assesses. Commissioner was further apprised about the non-availability of assesses’ room in the Income Tax office. Secretary General Satish Gupta pointed out that although the Income Tax office building has been constructed on modern plan yet the facility of lift (essential requirement) is lacking which is causing lot of difficulties to the elderly assesses who have to carry loads of books on their shoulders during assessment proceedings. The issue of addition of Excise refund as income of industrial units by the department against which aggrieved assesses have preferred appeals in the state high court was also taken up. Chamber requested the Commissioner that since the high court is seized of this matter, assessment and recovery proceedings may kindly be shelved till the high court pronounced its judgment. Ravi Sarangal Commissioner Income Tax Administration and Sanjay Mishra Commissioner Income Tax Appeals while appreciating the issues raised by Chamber assured that the issues of refund of TDS and Income Tax is already under consideration of the Department. Since the updating of computerization of records is near completion the difficulty on this part is likely to ease by September. He further assured that the Income Tax Department will ensure proper seating arrangements for the assesses till a proper room is made available. He further informed the delegation that sanction for installation of lift has already been received from the higher authorities and the work on this project is likely to start in a couple of days.
