| Good monsoon rains brings cheers on many faces | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 21: Bringing smile on the faces of the people, much awaited monsoon rains lashed the entire state particularly the Jammu region for last whole of the month.
Monsoon season of this year came with waves of elation as it gave respite to the farming community and people of winter capital as a whole.
It is important to mention here that as from last four years monsoons rains was scanty and also not up to the expectations of the people due to which farming community has to abide utter loss. Crop production was not enough to meet the requirements of the people of the state. The state was depended heavily on the imports of the food grains to feed its own people.
From last four consecutive years, the cropping pattern in the Jammu region also start witnessing the change and besides it there was also decline in production of staple food.
It is pertinent to mention here that the economy of entire Jammu region is agrarian based and any failure in the crops had an adverse impact on the lives of the people here.
Besides it unfavorable monsoonal season from last four years gave rise to draught conditions in the winter capital as maximum wells, ponds and streams virtually get dried and ground water level depleted considerably.
When Early Times spoke to some of the people of farming community, they said “From last four years we were suffering a lot and in utter loss because of unfavorable monsoon season prevailing in the winter capital of the state”.
“This year we hope that we will not suffer from famine and there will be good production of food” said one of the farmer.
They also said that good monsoon rains will also resulted in good yield of fruits in the region.
According to weatherman this year monsoon rains were more than the average and still more rains are likely to occur. Good rainfall will have over all positive impact on the over all economy of the state.
