"Go India Go", India will not go | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 22: Kashmiri separatists have unleashed a no-holds-barred "go India Go" campaign in the Valley. Their supporters have been painting the Kashmiri walls with such anti-India slogans, with the authorities in the state not taking action against such forces. The hate-India crusade unleashed by the Islamic radicals is part of the new strategy devised meticulously by the desperate Pakistanis who are finding it extremely difficult to keep Pakistan intact. Their objective is to create a situation in the Valley that forces New Delhi to close down its political and constitutional establishment in Kashmir so that they are able to give a particular type of orientation to everything in Kashmir, including political, economic and social institutions. They want to radicalize everything in the Valley in the manner the orthodox, primitive, intolerant and dreaded Taliban operatives did in Afghanistan and tribal areas of Pakistan, including North-West Frontier Province and Baluchistan, and the way they are seeking to do the same in the Pakistani Punjab and Sindh. The worst of the whole situation is that all the "mainstream" Kashmiri Muslim leaders, without any exception, are contributing to this process overtly and covertly by allowing Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Asiya Andrabi to play the shots in Kashmir and dictate everyone in the Valley. That the "mainstream" Kashmiri Muslim leaders are directly encouraging Geelani to reign supreme in Kashmir and do whatever he wants to do there could be seen from the two most recent developments. One was that one of the "political advisors" approached Geelani to tell him that he was free to carry on his anti-India activities. The permission was coupled with a caveat: He should not create "awkward situation for the state government led by Omar Abdullah." The other was the counsel of Mehbooba Mufti to Omar Abdullah to the effect that if he wished to restore normalcy in Kashmir, he had to seek the support of Geelani. In other words, both the ruling NC and the main opposition PDP consider Geelani as the sole factor in Kashmir - Geelani who has repeatedly declared in full public view that he would not accept anything short of Pakistan and "Nizam-e-Mustafa" in Kashmir. Don't say that the NC and the PDP are in a state of paralysis. They are not. They are simply complimenting the efforts of the Geelanis and the Andrabis, who publicly say that they represent the Kashmiri "elite." They do stand for a system that is primitive, reactionary, fundamentally bad and backward-looking. Both the PDP are working in unison and doing all that they could to pressurize New Delhi allow Kashmir to go out of India. Remember, autonomy and self-rule are two sides of one and the same coin; both are subverting the Indian polity from within and outside and strengthening the hands of the forces - Taliban style. This is alarming. How else should one interpret the situation when one views it in the light of the fact that those who are part of the establishment are actually depending on Geelani and putting all eggs in the basket of Geelani, who and others of his ilk have unleashed a relentless "Go India Go" campaign? Even more alarming are the reports suggesting that certain former Kashmir-based bureaucrats and traders have started cultivating certain former Jammu-based bureaucrats and traders with a view to creating a strong lobby in the state that, according to well informed sources, will start a campaign to tell the nation that the "killing of teenagers in Kashmir is unacceptable" and that the security forces needed to be reigned in. These Kashmir- based bureaucrats and some formers judges of the High Court have also come out openly and started writing columns in certain Jammu and Kashmir-based English language dailies and their objective is, it appears, to feed the Kashmiri separatists with some intellectual content and some information which they had gathered while in service. Not only this, there are also reports that certain elements in the establishment in Kashmir have started cultivating and befriending the Jammu-based officers, presently posted in Kashmir, and their purpose is the same - create a lobby comprising former and serving Jammu-based bureaucrats and Kashmir-based and Jammu-based traders, who matter, so that an impression is created that there is anger both in Kashmir and Jammu against the policies of New Delhi towards Kashmir. Highly trustworthy reports have revealed that the Kashmiri leadership was very happy to hear that the Jammu-based traders' premier organization had publicly opposed the call for Jammu bandh on July 3. The RSS-BJP combine had given the bandh call on the issue of Shri Amarnath Yatra. (To be continued). |
