Cloudburst washes away 3 tents near Amarnath cave, yatris safe | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 22: Even a cloudburst today occured on the rear side of the holy Amarnath cave shrine in South Kashmir Himalayas, washing away at least three tents, the last batch of 77 pilgrims left Jammu for the pilgrimage in the morning. There was, however, no casualty and all the pilgrims and security personnel were safe, official sources said. "A cloudburst was reported to have hit the rear side of the holy cave shrine in the afternoon, triggering a sudden rise in the water-level of the nearby stream," the sources added. Sources said three tents were damaged in the incident but there was no loss of life as pilgrims were evacuated to safety. Security forces were carrying out round the clock vigil around the cave shrine, the sources added. The yatra is set to conclude in the next two days. The last batch of 47 men, 29 women and one child left from the base camp of Bhagwati Nagar in two buses at about 10 am. With today's batch, around 4.55 lakh pilgrims have visited the shrine till now. Meanwhile, over 50,000 pilgrims today performed darshan at the shrine of Budha Amarnath in Mandi area of Poonch district since the yatra started on August 13. |
