50,000 devotees to participates, Muslims & Sikhs too joining
Mela Swami Buddha at Mandi today

Atleast 50,000 people from all walks of life are expected to participate in this years Mela Swami Buddha on the occasion of Rakshan Bandhan on Tuesday in Mandi area of border district Poonch. With this mela, annual Swami Buddha Amarnath Yatra will be concluded and Chhari Mubark will be taken back to Dashnami Akhara Poonch.
District administration, police and management committee of Mela Swami Buddha headed by Amandeep Singh are all set to organize a grand mela at Mandi on Tuesday. The mela is organized every year on Raksha Bandhan and is being participated by thousands of devotees.
“We are well prepared to hold this mela”, Organising committee head Amandeep Singh said adding that there is good cooperation of administration in organizing this big event. He said that local Muslims and Skihs are also lending hand to them in organizing the event.
One of the Muslim committee member of this mela Shamim Ganie, Beopar Mandal President of Mandi said that this is the only mela in the world in which all communities participated. “There are Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and Christians gathered in mandi to celebrate this mela on Raksha bandhan”, Shamim Ganie said adding that the mela is best example of communal harmony in India.
Alone Sikh member in the mela committee Sadvinder Singh said that Poonch is a land of sufi saints where people have great respect to the Buddha Amarnath Ji, Baba Nangali Sahib and shrine Sain Miran Bakash. He said that all these shrines in one area itself speaks that Poonch is giving a message of strong communal harmony. He added “We live together, read together in same school and celebrate each others festival together”.
The mela is being held in front of Mandir Buddha Amar Nath ji. The mandir is having a natural Shivlinga of white stone (chakmak) inside it. Number of ancient idols collected there from nearby villages are also installed in the premises of the mandir, where were four holy springs near the mandir in the past.
At present the water of three springs has been diverted to fourth one which is on the southern side of the mandir. The water of these springs is considered holy from religious point of view. The pilgrims first take bath in this spring and then enter in the mandir for prayers.
This place is surrounded by snow bounded lofty peaks, thick belt of fur forests, lush green pastures and crystal clear streams.
Meanwhile with the holding of Mela on Raksha Bandhan, annual Buddha Amarnath Ji Yatra will be concluded and Chhari Mubark will be taken back to Dashnami Akhara Poonch.
