JU ‘discriminating’ between private and govt institutions | | | Pardeep Singh EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 23: Disappointing large number of students of government B.Ed colleges, Jammu University in its recent M. Ed programme has preferred students from private colleges. Based on sheer merit list, students of private colleges led the list, whereas students from government colleges dropped out of list due to less percentage. Students failing to qualify allege university for hand in gloves with private colleges. They alleged that private colleges bribe the university authorities for acquiring high percentages in their B Ed exams. “Jammu University has played with our carriers, as after lot of competition and hardship we managed to get admission in government colleges for B.Ed courses, but little did we knew that in M.Ed programme, all hard work would be futile,” said Ranchana Charak, student. According to official record there are around 74 private colleges in Jammu recognized by JU, wherein around 20-25 students are imparting education in each college, falling under 60-80 percentages. In such clause there is no scope for the government led B.Ed colleges to compete. “Score of students allege university authorities for giving light hand to private colleges, whereas students of government colleges suffer. Denying the allegations, Assistant Registrar, Dr. Thirintika Singh said that the selection process was based on sheer merit list; even we don’t have any information about selected students. “There is no favoritism, we ourselves don’t know what would be the cut off, this year 62 percent is the cut off list whereas highest is 80, students falling under this list are selected without bias,” she said.
