Dy CM visits flood affected areas, asks to restore damaged services on priority basis

JAMMU, Aug 23: To take stock of losses caused to the people due to incessant rains and floods in various areas of Jammu division, Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand, convened a series of public darbars at Khachial, Selewali, Sarmala, Patyari, Thandi Choi, Kleeth, Naryana, Kartyal-Simble, Serhi and Kharah.
Responding to the demand of people, the Dy CM asked the officers to immediately assess the losses caused to the crops of farmers due to flash floods for ensuring them timely compensation. He also directed them to take up flood protection works along Lohaki nallah on priority basis.
Dy CM directed the concerned authorities to work in double shifts in order to restore all essential services damaged due to the heavy rains and floods.
He asked the CMO, Jammu, to restore functioning of Health Sub Centre Khachial besides instructing the BDO to prepare proposal for construction of damaged lanes and drains in the village.
Tara Chand directed the Revenue authorities to identify state land for allotment to those whose residential houses have come under border fencing. He asked the R&B department to expedite work on Pahariwala to Kotamairu link road besides directing CAPD authorities to ensure that the areas which have been affected first by long dry spells and now flash floods should be provided adequate ration supply on priority basis.
Addressing the public gatherings, the Dy CM said that the coalition government has initiated a number of reformative measures to ensure better facilities to the people especially those living in hilly, border and rural pockets of the state. He said that the people also have to contribute their services for effecting implementation of several development projects being executed under state and centrally sponsored schemes.
Tara Chand informed the people that the government has provided Rs10,000 to every health sub centre as untied grant under NRHM and constituted village health committees for proper utilization of these funds.
