Dwivedi tours city takes stock of flood damages

JAMMU, Aug 23:
District Development Commissioner (DDC), Jammu, M K Dwivedi, along with the officers of UEED, ERA, Flood Control, PDD, Irrigation and Revenue Departments conducted an extensive tour of Jammu urban to have on the spot assessment of the damages caused due to recent torrential rains and floods.
The DDC ordered necessary measures for restoration of the damaged infrastructure and to prevent such damages in future.
The areas inspected by the team included Company Bagh near Jewel Chowk adjoining Rehari Nallah, Durga Nagar, Om Nagar Nallah, Gopi Nath Vihar Colony, Paloura, Janipur, Rajiv Nagar Nallah, Kalka Colony adjoining Rajiv Nagar Nallah, Chhani Nallah opposite SOS Home, Chhani Rama Nallah, Deali Nallah and nallah at Gangyal near Kashmir Rolling Mill.
The public, particularly of Durga Nagar, Om Nagar, Gopi Nath Vihar Colony, Janipur, Kalka Colony putforth their grievances and requested for early repair of the damaged infrastructure in the area. They also called for concrete steps to avoid such happenings in future. The DDC gave a patient hearing to the deputations and assured that all possible steps shall be taken to save the life and property of the public of these areas.
At few locations like Om Nagar Nallah, Rajiv Nagar Nallah, Gangyal Nallah near Kashmir Rolling Mill and Deali nallah, the instances of encroachment were noticed and on the spot directions were issued to the revenue authorities to remove the same after verifying the revenue records.
DDC instructed the engineers of UEED, ERA and Flood Control Departments to immediately take up the temporary restoration works of the nallahs and prepare detailed projects for permanent restoration so that funds are arranged accordingly.
The Assistant Commissioner Revenue was also asked to prepare the relief cases of the families, especially the poorest of the poor whose properties have been damaged due to floods in these areas.
