8/24/2010 11:30:12 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Aug 24: While brothers across the country celebrated Raksha bandhan with their sisters, the men in olive green had a unique celebration lined up for them on this beautiful festival of brotherhood. “ For the soldiers of the White Knight Corps, deployed along the LOC and fighting the insurgents in the rugged terrain in the hinterland, Rakshabandhan would have been another lonely festival, spent along, far from their loved ones, had it not been for all those sisters who never forgot them. They might have been far, but they were certainly not forgotten, not just by their kith and kin, but by the whole country, that was the message, the unique gesture of sending rachis to them conveyed. Various organisations across the country went an extra mile and ensured that all those who wanted to express their solidarity with the army men, could send their rachis, to them. These organisations selflessly organised the collection of rachis and ensured that these were delivered to them in time for Rakshabandhan.
The joy and happiness of the solidiers on receiving these had to be seen to be believed. They expressed their gratitude to all the sisters, who had thought of them even without knowing them, and all the organisations who had ensured that these were collected and delivered in time for Rakshabandhan. Speaking on the occasion, Lt. Gen Rameshwar Roy, AVSM, YSM, General Officer Commanding White Kinght Corps expressed that such touching gestures go a long way in reinforcing the bonds of brotherhood and strengthening the resolve of the soldiers living in difficult conditions and fighting the insurgents, besides bringing immense joy to them.
