Shortsightedness of literates like Mr. Zahur-ud-Din is unfortunate | | | In reference to a meeting of some Muslim coordination committee for Jammu province held at Rajouri , a news was published in one yesterday's English daily where Prof. Zahur-ud-Din a retired teacher of Urdu department from Jammu University said that Muslim community of the state is united and it will not tolerate brutality on Kashmiris. "We will no more tolerate state action on the people of Kashmir who have been detained in their houses for the last three months, he further added. He further said that New Delhi must come forward and fulfill its promise on referendum. The above like statements are no doubt being issued by valley based politicians willingly or unwillingly but it is quite surprising when a literate persons hailing from a plural society of Jammu like Mr Zahur-ud-Din speaks while linking the religion with political agendas for short gains and cheap publicity and of course such people never can be the leaders in a true sense. Literate class of a society or country no doubt has every right to join politics but at the same time its actions should be honest and sophisticated as a common man always expects good things from their side. Prof Zahur expresses his views on peace & brotherhood in seminars & meetings at Jammu in a total positive way but simultaneously speaks different outside and such a double standard image will not help him anywhere. To me, being a teacher of a beautiful language, he should have made attempts to revive an extra ordinary biding force image of "URDU". Proudly expressing or singing of Urdu poetry of famous Muslim poets by almost every person from every religion of this sub-continent during past was a common phenomenon and of course sho-ws the value of a language. In the interest of a permanent peace & our coming generations, it is a moral duty of literate class from all three regions of the state to come closer in order to fill up a vacuum created by the sub-standard politicians and other vested interests. |
