Woman going to tie rakhi to brother among two killed, 12 hurt in mishap

Jammu, Aug 24: The moments of happiness were turned into sadness when a woman going to tie rakhi, or the holy thread, around her brother's wrist and bestow immortality was today killed in a minibus accident on the national highway at Morian Chhan in Hiranagar, about 65 km from here.
The minibus driver was also killed in the incident while at least 12 others were wounded, five of them critically. The incident occured at about 11.30 am when the minibus was on its way from Dayalachak to Samba.
Police sources said as the vehicle was speeding, the driver lost control over the steering as a result of which two persons were killed on the spot while about 12 others sustained injuries. The dead were identified as Sharda Devi, wife of Suresh Kumar of Dhamyal, Hiranagar, and driver Bharat Bhushan, son of Ludarmani of Nanath, Ghagwal.
Sources said Sharda was going to tie rakhi to his brother along with her 13-year-old son Sumer, who survived with multiple injuries. As the news of Sharda's death reached the houses of her brother and husband, the atmosphere there was turned into sadness, the sources added.
After post-mortem at the sub-district hospital (SDH), Hiranagar, the body was handed over to her family members for last rites. Bharat Bhushan's body was also given to his family for last rites after post-mortem.
Of the 12 injured persons, seven were discharged from SDH, Hiranagar, as they had received minor injuries and bruises. While Sumer was undergoing treatment at SDH, Hiranagar, four were referred to the GMC Hospital for advanced treatment. They were identified as Ashish, son of Ganesh Dass of Shamachak, Santosh Devi, wife of Rampal of Chhapar Morh, Makhni, wife of Makhan Lal of Saied, and Asha Rani, wife of Kasturi Lal of Kaili Mandi, Samba. Their condition was stated to be out of danger.
A case in this connection stands registered at the concerned police station.
