'Posturing' by Cong leaders a high drama? | ‘Battle between khadi & Khaki fizzles out’ | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Aug 24: So the battle between Khadi(Congress ministers )and Khaki (Police officers) witnessed in Jammu on Monday appears to have fizzled out, apparently much in favour of the latter. Despite 'elephantine' presence three Congress ministers, an MP and MLC besides octogenarian leader Pandit Mangat Ram Sharma showed in a bid to express solidarity with IYC leaders, the 'high drama' has ended in smoke and their posturing for sure has 'missed the mark'. The only satisfaction they can have is announcement of enquiry into the whole episode. Whatever happened on scene between Police and IYC leadership leading the peace rally on Jammu roads is a story of usual friction witnessed on such occasions between enthusiastic youth workers of any party and the men in Khaki. There can be reasons beyond what was projected as a pretext which led to the tussle between the two. But involvement of leaders as senior as the cabinet ministers in the episode by way of making their physical presence is being seen as nothing less than 'political posturing' and uncalled for 'enactment of the act' for more than one reason. One that despite their 'hullao bullao' against the khaki brigade, the cry has simply slumped and come to nothing so far. In other words the Ministers like RS Chib, Raman Bhalla, MP Madan Lal Sharma et el, besides the senior most veteran Pandit Mangat Ram Sharma have only proved that they were 'false guys' in the in promptuo role they immediately offered to perform on the spot. The assertive assurances of 'action' against the police officers have not so far reached any desired end nor matched the reality on ground. No action, whatsoever, has so far been taken against any one. Whether the police action was on right side or really uncalled for, is a different matter for the authorities to look into. But involvement of senior Congress leaders in the scene, even if for the sake of posturing and compulsive gestures have embarrassed them and in a way stranded them to a point where everyone seems to be asking -is Police more powerful than those in the power or is it really that Police is always on right path when it hits hard the politicians, no matter they are a part of the power ….? The high drama seen on Monday has also reflected one more interested thing- that in the politics ridden with factionalism and tussle of power between the two lobbies in one party, Police officers, that too of the rank of SSP prove that they are more powerful than 'anyone else' who matters in the power game. |
