DIG CRPF declares open KVS Regional girls’ Kho-Kho Meet | Host KV Bantalab, Domana make winning start | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 25: Host Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) Bantalab, Domana and Kathua among won in the league round on the opening day of the four-day Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) Regional (girls) Kho-Kho Meet at KV Bantalab grounds here today. While KV Bantalab trounced KV Miran Sahib by one turn and two points, Kathua registered a narrow seven points’ win over KV Nagrota and KV Domana defeated KV Nangalpur by 17 points to consolidate their position. In other matches of the day, KV Alhilal in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh registered a narrow two points’ win over KV-I Adampur. KV-I Akhnoor also won their match beating KV-1 Jammu by one turn and four points. Earlier, the competitions were declared open by Deputy Inspector General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), S R Panthi, who is also chairman of the Vidyalaya Management Committee. In his encouraging address to the participating teams, chief guest emphasized the need of taking part in competition in true spirit of sports. Before DIG inaugurated the event, Principal of KV Bantalab, Sushma Thapar welcomed the chief guest and other guests amidst colourful cultural programme and oath taking ceremony by the participating teams. Vote of thanks was presented by Minakshi Sethi. In all, over 220 players drawn from 20 Kendriya Vidyalayas, falling under Jammu Region, are taking part in this league-cum-knock out tournament. Last year, the title was clinched by KV-2, Adampur beating KV-1 Akhnoor while KV Nagal Bhur remained third. The four-day long kho-kho tournament is being held under the supervision of chairman technical committee and senior judge of the Kho-Kho Federation of India, BS Tirthi.
BASKETBALL, CRICKET, TENNIS: The KVS Regional sports meet in three events of girls basketball, under-19 cricket and tennis were declared open at KV-2 Jammu Cantt by the Principal of the Vidyalaya, Meenakshi Jain. On the opening day of the four-day competitions, first round started today amidst colourful opening function. SHOOTING: Inspector General of Police (Armed), Dilbag Singh was chief guest in the girls KVS Regional sports meet in shooting at KV Sunjuwan. He encouraged the participants during the introduction session. CHESS, SKATING: Other two events of chess and skating, organised by KV-I Gandhi Nagar also started today. While chess competitions begun at the Vidyalaya premises, the skating events started at MA Stadium skating rink.
