Incidence of diseases rises in Doda after heavy rains | | | Shariq Nabi Early Times Report Doda, Aug 25: The heavy rainfalls in hilly region this monsoon season have not brought potholes, water logging and floods but also a spell of viral and bacterial diseases. Doctors in this hilly region say a marked increase has been registered in the cases of viral fever, dengue, gastroenteritis, jaundice and typhoid. The number of patients suffering from stomach infections and viral infections is more during this monsoon. Alone here in District Hospital Doda (DHD) 88 patients, who were suffering from these water borne diseases, were admitted for treatment of which 14 were referred to Jammu for advance treatment. It is worth mentioning that the hospital has only 100 beeding capacity. During heavy rains sewage and mud gets mixed with drinking water which contributes to the rise, said Dr Fareed Ahmed, Superintendent DHD. The condition here can took a pathetic turn if timely action is not taken because the paramedical staff is short in DHD and services of Ayurvedic doctors is being used here. Keeping in view the increasing inflow of patients the DHD management has decided to vacate doctors OPD room, waiting rooms and some additional store room for the patients accommodation. While incidents of gastrointestinal infections and viral fever have been rising in this month, hospital OPDs, emergency, wards have been flooded with the cases of other monsoon borne ailments also. Doctors attribute the rise to humid weather, water logging and consumption of unhygienic food. Advising taking extra care on food and hygiene, doctor says simple measures like washing hands regularly and taking care of skin is a must to prevent bacterial growth on the body. Food items must be kept covered. It is very important to wash hands after coming from public places and before having food, said Dr Fareed.
