Govt needlessly interfering in functioning of JCCB: Gupta | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 25: Chairman of Citizen Cooperative Bank Limited Dinesh Gupta has accused the state government especially the Minister for Cooperative Manohar Lal of unnecessarily interfering in the otherwise smooth functioning of the Jammu citizen cooperative Bank (JCCB) He leveled these allegations while addressing a press conference here today. Gupta alleged that state cooperative department has left no stone unturned in damaging the cooperative institutions. He said “State government has no stakes in the functioning of cooperative institution but the concerning Minister is unnecessarily interfering in the affairs of the Bank”. He informed that after being democratically elected to the board of the bank, managing committee took over the affairs of the bank on August 11, 2007 but the state government illegally dissolved the board on December 21, 2009; months before the expiry of its term. He further said that board of administrators headed by Divisional Commissioner Jammu was appointed which invited litigation. He further informed that board members challenged the superseded order of Registrar Cooperative Societies in J&K Special Tribunal and High Court quashed the order and restored the management of the bank to the elected board of directors. Gupta threatened that if the state government would again interfere in the functioning of the board, they would be compelled to once again approach the court and initiate contempt proceeding against the state government. Gupta urged the state government not to disturb left over tenure of the board members as tenure of the present board members is going to end on December 14, 2010. He announced that keeping in view the democratic spirit, board has decided to hold election of bank on December 15, 2010. Gupta appealed the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to handover the reigns of the cooperative department to some other senior minister for keeping alive cooperative movement in the state. Other members of CCB Board were also present in the press conference.
