JU Urdu department increase payment seats to 20 | | | Pardeep Singh EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Aug 25: The competition in the Jammu University is turning tough to toughest,as from eight to 20 available payment seats in the Urdu department thestudents are vying for the seats and so far with in weeks all the 20 seats have been filled. Despite of the fact that Jammu University has upgraded its standard in the education system by augmenting payment seats from mere eight to 20. There is no uncertainty that Urdu has received overwhelming response in JU, but the students are not contended with it all. Though it’s an achievement for the department of Urdu as now the department enters double digit of students who would be imparted with PG course but the students in general are not contented as they feel that seats in general category should be enhanced to provide education to all students at par. “Payment seats can only be availed by those students who belong to sound family and have enough to pay for the paid seats while those who can’t afford money can’t avail the opportunity” said Amir a student. “As such it seems to be an achievement but if pondered over it rationally the question raises that why the general category seats has not been enhanced if the department has enough infrastructure to handle large number of students” said Adil Miskeen. Shoib Malik, Head of Department of Urdu said that it is for the first time that such a large number of seats has been enhanced, which is really a big achievement as it provides opportunity to maximum number of students to avail higher education. He apprised that the department has sufficient infrastructure including spacious class rooms and big seminar hall which has capacity for two hundred students. “I have observed students flocking irrespective of region and religion in the department during admission session, sensing the high demand of Urdu I requested Professor Varun Sahni, the Vice Chancellor of Jammu University to enhance the number of payment seats in department and the Vice Chancellor welcomed my request following which the number of Payment seats has been increased by Department” said Malik. When asked that why the general category seats has not been increased he stated that this year the proposal was sent for payment seatshowever in next session the proposal of enhancement for General category seats would be proposed to VC.
