Cong leader peeved over losses across Doda | Excessive rainfall | | ET NEWS SERVICE JAMMU, Aug 25: Congress leader and MLA Doda Abdul Majid Wani has expressed concern over extensive losses caused in rural areas of Doda district, due to heavy rainfall during last one month. In a handout issued here today, Wani has said that recent heavy rainfalls, during last one month, in Doda district have affected rural population badly. Apart from extensive damages caused to standing crops and number of mud houses getting damaged, affected vital supplies such as potable water and food are resulting in outbreaks of water-borne diseases, added Wani. Wani said that erosion of soil & heavy landslides, due to incessant rainfall, have caused enormous damage to the rural infrastructure as well. He has said that many bridges connecting rural population to main roads have partially or fully collapsed, numbers of roads have also been washed away. Wani has maintained that reports of heavy damages & change of routes by local Dessa Nala, Ragi Nala, Bharat Nalla and Shoonsh Nallah are also coming out. MLA Doda asked the authorities to reach out all rural areas of the district to assess losses occurred due to incessant rainfall and to submit detailed report to the Chief Minister in this regard. Sufficient number of relief & health workers should be deputed, especially, in far-flung inaccessible areas. Wani also made an appeal to the Chief Minister and Minister I/C Relief & Rehabilitation to announce & provide free ration for at least six months to all the affected families. Otherwise, the condition shall become uncontrollable and the deaths of number of poor people are expected due to starvation.
